Canada’s 2026 time zone changes, explained
Several parts of Canada did not turn their clocks back on 1 November 2026. Vancouver, Edmonton and Winnipeg now keep their summer UTC offsets throughout the year. This is a regional change, not the end of daylight saving time across all of Canada.
Which parts of Canada changed?
| Region | Examples | Permanent UTC offset |
|---|---|---|
| Most of British Columbia | Vancouver, Victoria | UTC-7 |
| Eastern B.C. communities following Alberta | Golden, Cranbrook and the East Kootenays | UTC-6 |
| Alberta | Calgary, Edmonton | UTC-6 |
| Northwest Territories | Yellowknife, Inuvik | UTC-6 |
| Manitoba | Winnipeg, Brandon | UTC-5 |
| Parts of northwestern Ontario | Kenora, Fort Frances, Rainy River | UTC-5 |
British Columbia has regional exceptions. Golden and the East Kootenays remain aligned with Alberta at UTC-6. Dawson Creek, Fort Nelson and Creston already kept UTC-7. Yukon already kept UTC-7, and most of Saskatchewan already kept UTC-6.
Pacific Time and Alberta Time
B.C. uses Pacific Time, abbreviated PCT, for its year-round UTC-7 time. Alberta uses Alberta Time, or ABT, at UTC-6. Software may still show an older abbreviation or a numeric UTC offset. Choose a city and a date when converting a meeting.
What changes for meetings?
The gap changes when another city still moves its clocks. Vancouver and Los Angeles share an hour in summer, but Vancouver is one hour ahead in winter. Winnipeg and Toronto share an hour in winter, but Toronto is one hour ahead in summer.
| Date | Vancouver | Edmonton | Winnipeg | Toronto | Los Angeles |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 09:00 | 10:00 | 11:00 | 11:00 | 08:00 | |
| 09:00 | 10:00 | 11:00 | 12:00 | 09:00 |
Check your next recurring meeting
- Choose the meeting’s actual date. A summer comparison can be wrong for winter.
- Decide which city’s local time should stay fixed, then check the other cities.
- Review existing calendar invitations with your calendar provider. A clock converter cannot repair an invitation already saved with an old rule.

Common questions
Did all of Canada stop changing clocks?
No. Toronto, Montréal, Ottawa, Halifax and St. John’s still observe seasonal clock changes. The 2026 decisions affect the regions listed above.
Will Vancouver change clocks in March 2027?
No. Under the current rules, Vancouver stays on UTC-7. Alberta and the Northwest Territories stay on UTC-6, while Manitoba and the affected northwestern Ontario communities stay on UTC-5.
Why might my computer show the wrong Canadian time?
An older browser, operating system or calendar service may still have the previous rules. Install its available updates and select the right city. Open World Clock includes compatibility rules for these 2026 changes.
